Like many of you I have mixed feelings about the transition from summer days to school days.
Part of me is sad about the end of summer while another side of me is excited about the fresh new start of the school year. Sometimes I feel like I did as a kid starting school and my stomach gets in knots thinking about what lies ahead.
This year I amtrying to make it easier for myself by adding in some small changes to make life a little less stressful.
One thing that causes me to feel overwhelmed during the school year is all the papers that come home about school projects, field trips, parties, fundraisers, etc. I look at the paper and if the “due date” for returning the paper is not tomorrow then I set it aside.
When the time comes for me to turn in the paper I spend way too much time trying to track it down. Oftentimes, I have to dig through the recycling bin since my husband loves to get rid of my piles and assumes the papers are not important. My hunt for the paper leaves me irritated with myself, annoyed with my husband, andgenerally frustrated.
This year on my quest to make things easier I am implementing the “Touch it Once” strategy I learned from the super fabulous fitness guru ShannonFable.
What is the “Touch it Once” strategy? Take action the first time you touch it. In my case, instead of procrastinating and moving things from pile to pile, I am going to send back the forms the first time I read them.
Why am I telling you this and what does it have to do with befriending you body?
Perhaps you are much more organized than I am with your papers, kids schedules, and due dates. You might have another school stress issue such as getting your kids to bed, waking up in time to get everyone to school, finding time to exercise, making sure lunches a re ready or something entirely different.
Whatever the stress stems from, I know we are all capable of making a small simple shift that can make our lives flow a little better.
More ease and flow…less stress. Alleviating our stress levels improves our overall health, mood and attitude. Lower stress is linked to releasing extra weight and getting better qualitysleep. All of these benefits contribute to a better relationship with your body
My question for you…what simple shift can you make to make your life a little bit easier this school year? How can you make a fresh start whether you have kids or not?
Do you have a great strategy or idea? I would love to hear from you.
To a fun, sparkling new school year- Michelle
