Wellness Notes: Give your feet a rest!!

Wellness Notes

Give your feet a rest!!

You may not give much thought to your feet, but these two body parts are actually quite complex.

Did You Know?

  • There are 52 bones in your two feet
  • 33 joints
  • 107 ligaments
  • 19 muscles and some tendons that hold everything together

If you neglect your feet, it can lead to unnecessary pain and other foot problems.

Healthy feet are important for feeling good and staying active. Use these tips to keep yourself active and your feet pain-free.

  • Cut toenails properly. Cut your nails straight across and be mindful not to cut them too close to the skin. This will help prevent ingrown toenails and/or infections.

  • Don’t work out without socks. Your feet have thousands of sweat glands. Perspiration creates the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive. Wear sports socks during activity to absorb moisture and consider an anti-fungal spray if you’re prone to conditions like athlete’s foot.
  • Avoid flip-flops if you’re going to be doing a lot of walking. Flip-flops don’t provide much support and if you consistently wear them and do a lot of walking it could cause sore feet and possibly painful foot conditions like plantar fasciitis

If you experience persistent foot redness, swelling or discoloration see a healthcare professional. Allowing a doctor to take a look will help prevent minor problems from becoming major ones!
